Hot days, blooming ponds, and a packed calendar… must be July in St. Louis! Water lilies are reaching peak bloom, and this month there’s something for every kind of gardener: pond club meetings, wildflower walks, and a Route 66 centennial celebration right here in our new hometown of Wildwood. Our garden center is open seven days a week, with beautiful displays inside and out… and a new take on our annual SALE kicks off at the end of the month!

Animal experts Debbie and Steve Teson bring live reptiles and amphibians up close, with animals displayed in aquariums representing their natural habitats. A great one for the young naturalists in your life. Best for ages 3–12.

Garden and landscape photographer Kim Dillon covers camera settings, composition, and how to make a scene stand out — then takes the class outside to practice. Bring whatever camera you have, including your phone. Beginners to intermediates welcome. LNAGSL members $10, non-members $20, students free.


Calder Burton of the Watercolors Podcast visits MASI to talk about breeding mantis shrimp, one of the most fascinating (and famously hard-hitting) creatures in the marine world. A great evening for anyone with an aquatic side to their hobby.


Wildwood’s 12th Annual Plein Air Art Event launches today with a new format. Artists and photographers receive their theme and guidelines, then have three weeks to create work inspired by Wildwood for display and sale at City Hall. The participation fee is $25 ($10 for students under 18). The deadline for completed work is August 7.

A corridor-wide celebration of Route 66’s centennial, right in our backyard. Saturday brings a themed cruise, live music, food trucks, historical exhibits, and free shuttles connecting activity nodes across Wildwood. Chalily will be posted up at Pond Middle School, stop by our booth!
Sunday wraps up with brunch specials, live music, a historic marker unveiling at Big Chief Roadhouse, a Route 66 presentation by Joe Sonderman and at Chalily, Rosalee, the 1967 Ford truck, will be paying a visit! Stop by for photos and fun!


A double feature this month! Speaker Connie Lohse-OGC presents Fragrance, Flavor & Folklore, followed by a “Pond-O-Bration,” a well-deserved celebration of this year’s pond tour. Party snacks provided. Hosts are especially encouraged to attend.

An evening with the Garden’s water lilies in full bloom, and a 45-minute docent talk on George H. Pring, the legendary horticulturist known as “the father of tropical water lilies.” Meet the horticulturists who care for the aquatic collections, connect with Garden scientists, and watch plein air painters work poolside. Two talk times: 5:30 and 7:00 pm. Free for members, registration required.

A nature adventure for little ones, with stories, songs, movement and play centered on water and the animals that live in it. Brought to you by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Dress to get wet! For ages 7 and under.






















Experience a magical evening of moonlit ponds during Nature’s Re-Creations’ annual event. This self-guided tour includes four beautiful outdoor retreats, with mingling and refreshments at the final stop.
